Niagara golfer Andrew Depuy posted a first round score of 79 that put him in a tie for 40th in the NCCGA National Invitation Tournament held at Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort on the Sun Mountain Course.
What was scheduled to be a two day tournament was shortened to one day due to unplayable conditions on day 2 due to high winds. Clemson University won the tournament with a combined team score of 385. The low individual score was recorded by Brian Blessing from the Golf Academy of America-Myrtle Beach.
This was Niagara University’s first time completing in the National Invitational Tournament and were one of only 14 teams in the country to qualify. Eight players from the university attended, including: Andrew Depuy, J.J. Napoli, John Anderson, Dustin Furness, Kyle Schultze, Nick Matos, James Spanbauer and Bryce Callen. Following behind Andrew Depuy's score of 79 the top four scores included: Joseph Napoli 81, Kyle Schultze 84 and Nick Matos 87.
The Niagara University Purple Eagles finished the Fall 2017 season ranked #1 in the Northeast Region. In Zone 1 the team ranked #8 out of 48 teams, and ranked #81 nationally out of over 350 teams.
