The Niagara University Men's Club Lacrosse Team competed in the Beltway Bash tournament hosted by the University of Maryland. The Beltway Bash is an invitation only tournament that brings together the best teams of the National Collegiate Lacrosse League (NCLL). Going into the tournament Niagara was rank #3 in the country in Division II of the NCLL. Throughout their time at the tournament the Purple Eagles defeated all thier opponents, clenching the championship at the end of the weekend.
8-6 Win over (#12) Lock Haven
Marc Groth had an amazing game in goal, keeping his team alive standing on his head with 16 huge saves while Michael Bentivegna did it all on offense with a 5 goal performance
8-7 Win over (#20) Millersville
Mark Stamer controlled the game at the face off X and with a big hat trick while the defense was held together by strong play out of Steven Dutcher, Bryan Wherry, and Jon Anderson.
10-1 Win over Shippensburg
Niagara came out quick with a great all around team effort highlighted by big goals from Dan Schlein and Peter Mrazik. Defensively Davy Phillips had a strong game even adding an assist to his night. This game showed a bright future for the team with lots of underclassmen stepping up and getting the win.
6-5 Win over (#20) Millersville
Niagara met Millersville again in the Semi Finals at 11 PM where Kyle Jessee contributed 2 key goals while Mitch Stessing continued his consistent play throughout the tournament by adding yet another goal. Marc Groth again was standout in net with help from his defense killing multiple man-down situations.
7-3 Win over Radford
Finally Niagara played in the Championship game at 12 AM Sunday morning against Radford. Battling through adversity the team stuck to what they knew and shut down almost every attempt Radford had. The defense as a whole played great while Jared McHenry led the team with 3 goals for the win.
