The 2017-2018 Niagara University Men’s Club Basketball team looks to rebound from a 6-17 overall record last season with a revamped roster, welcoming 7 new members to its roster. Newcomers include sharpshooter Will Alfieri (5’11” freshman guard), do-it-all scorer Arinze Amalu (6’1” graduate guard), big man Daniel Elliott (6’4” freshman power forward), mid-range scorer Jose Gomez (5’9” freshman guard), marksman Brian Hugo (5’7” freshman guard), and a pair of guards that can both fill up the stat sheet scoring and distributing the basketball (5’9” junior guard Hamlet Margarin and 6’1” senior guard Tony Pantoja). Three-point specialist Dustin Dorsino (5’9” senior guard) is entering his second season as President and Co-Captain of the team. Sharing the title of Co-Captain with Dorsino is perhaps the team’s most talented all-around player, Keon Peterkin (6’0” junior forward). Returning members of the roster also include Alex Bock (6’2” sophomore guard), Phillip Bodwell (5’10” sophomore forward), Jaylen Mitchell (5’11” senior guard), Nate Nashwinter (6’2” sophomore forward), Ben Tashjian (6’5” sophomore center), and JaRon Williams (6’0” senior forward). The Purple Eagles also will look to make more noise at the conclusion of the NCBBA regular season as they travel to compete in the NCBBA National Tournament hosted by The Ohio State University. Last season, Niagara dropped both of its divisional games to Yale University and Prairie View A&M. Alex Bock and Dustin Dorsino took part in the 3PT Contest, placing 2nd and 4th respectively out of almost 200 competitors. Eric Hall, JaRon Williams, and Keon Peterkin all showed off their athleticism at the tournament by competing in the Dunk Contest. The Purple Eagles have conference matchups scheduled against Binghamton, Syracuse, St. Bonaventure, Ithaca, and Rochester, with nonconference games against Nazareth, St. John Fisher, Buffalo, and Daemen as well. The team is coached by Bill Clingersmith, Eric Hall, and Matt Burke. Look for the team’s schedule under “Schedule/Results” and come out to show support for your 2018 Men’s Club Basketball team!
