Fredonia State, 9/20/2014

This past Saturday, Niagara beat SUNY Fredonia 27-5.

This week was one to test the depth of what our ever growing team has to offer.

With 4 reserve players getting starts, emptying the bench that included 2 freshman rookie standouts coming in the second half for their first collegiate match , and 6 starters out this week, including Julian Sharp, captain of last season’s championship team who is recovering from an injury sustained in spring rugby, were out due to various minor injuries and military commitments.

Fredonia put on great offensive and defensive pressure, causing turnovers at key areas of the field but, the second half Niagara came back with renewed vigor and possibly without the new player jitters, stuck to the game plan we planned for all week, and played solid rugby for the rest of the day.

Man of the Match honors: Justin Flynn
             Honorable mention: Matt Brause

Four Purple Eagles touched down for four (4) tries on the day:

Eric Smith
Matt Kunkel
Zanaid Marra
Matt Brause

Matt Coles 2/4 conversions
Matt Coles 1/1 Penalty

This Sunday, Niagara travels to Geneseo for a scheduled kick off at 1pm.
